Bismarck Lookout Tower at Zelená Hill

Altitude 637 m above sea level, height 18 m, 72 stairs

On the site of the present-day Bismarck Lookout Tower, 8. a 14-metre-tall wooden sightseeing tower was made accessible on 23 August 1891, which was replaced in 1909 by this 18-metre-tall stone tower.

It was named after the German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, and over 200 more stone towers and columns were constructed in his honour. There are two more of this type in Czechia – one on Háj Hill near Aš and the other nearby Mikulášovice in the Šluknov Hook.

In the period following World War II until the fall of the Communist regime, the lookout tower was in the off-limits border zone. Until recently, many believed the tower to have been razed. Younger generations did not even know of its existence.

In 2005, Cheb had it reconstructed at costs of approximately CZK 2 million, and on 12 6. June 2005, it was again opened to the public. It has thus assumed its place alongside the other historical monuments that Cheb owns and takes care of.

You can reach the Bismarck Lookout Tower by taking the green hiking trail from the Cheb Square. The route is 5 km long. You can reach it at any time during the year, but it is open from April to the end of September.

The Cheb Half-Timbered Farmstead at Milíkov

In 2008, the Karlovy Vary Region purchased the Cheb half-timbered farmstead in Milíkov at the address No. 18, which was then put into the administration of the Regional Museum of the Karlovy Vary Region. The museum opened the exhibit on rural life from the end of the 19th century until the period characterised by the phenomenon of cottages to the public.

Here, visitors can see the gradually created collection of rustic furniture, household, crafts, or agricultural tools and equipment, and smaller agricultural mechanisation in the time horizon beginning from the second half of the 19. 19th century to the present. The transformation of using the farmstead as an independent dwelling and economic unit – as it was until 1945 – is mapped, as well as the changes given by the expulsion of the former population, the period when a farmstead was lived lived in “until death” to the period when it is rather used as a holiday home within the so-called phenomenon of “cottaging”.

It is located 18 km to the east of Cheb.

Okrouhlá Chateau

This formerly Gothic stronghold was reconstructed in both the Renaissance and Baroque styles, whereby the changes were predominantly made in the interiors. This changed in the 1880s with the interventions of Karel Haberzettl, who had a new roof with tall dormer-windows built in the spirit of Romanticism. He also had the moat backfilled and decorated the window frames with a new facade. Some of the rooms inside the chateau have been partially preserved (the hall with stucco and medallions on the first storey). The stronghold is not open to the public.
