Excursion to Zelená Hill

The Bismarck Lookout Tower located on Zelená Hill is an 18-metre-high stone tower with 71 stairs that dates to 1909. After World War II, it was located in the territory of the prohibited border zone and was made publicly accessible only after the town of Cheb had it completely reconstructed in 2005.
Length of route: 6,6 km
From the hiking trail guidepost in front of the information centre on the square, head out on the red hiking trail in the direction leading downhill via Kamenná Street.
At the intersection by the Church of St Bartholomew, turn left onto Křižovnická Street. After about 150 metres, a view of Cheb Castle opens on the left. Continue straight all the way to Písek Gate, which was part of the city walls. Beyond it, continue through the Krajinka Grounds around the playgrounds and the Krajinka Café along the riverbank around Vávra Footbridge all the way to the levee of Skalka Water Reservoir. Do not cross it, but turn left to the Skalka Housing Development, and continue the green hiking trail beginning from the hiking guidepost. A half kilometre further, you will see a conciliation cross to the right of the path. Cross the main road leading to the border crossing at Pomezí nad Ohří, cross under the small railway bridge, and going slightly uphill, reach the only house that remains from the formerly extensive village of Horní Pelhřimov. Continue uphill on the green hiking trail to the site where the Church of St Anne and the cemetery once stood. Today, the cemetery has been repaired, and an information board stands on site of the church. Turn left onto the path, and after 300 metres of walking through the forest, turn left again, where after ascending a steep hill, you will reach the top with the stone lookout tower.

You can return along the same route or walk 1.5 km to Horní Hraničná, from where you take the yellow trail for 3 km to Pomezí nad Ohří. From here, return to Cheb by bus.
