Excursion to the Soos Reserve and to Nový Drahov

The Soos Nature Reserve was established in 1964. 1964. It spreads out over an area of 221 ha. You can walk through part of this area on the 1.4-km-long educational trail with information boards and commentary. You will see the peat bog and the marshland where an enormous number of mineral springs source alongside carbon dioxide effusing from so-called mofettas - mud volcanoes. Nový Drahov - a Rural Heritage Reserve with the typical Cheb architecture timbered homesteads. You can visit the potter workshop of Mr Werner at one of these homesteads.

From Františkovy Lázně (Excursion No. 3), from the train station, head out towards the village of Žírovice on the red hiking trail. In Žírovice, turn right on Stodola and to Nový Drahov, continuing the red trail. Beyond this village, continue the road between meadows. Beyond the railroad crossing, we already see the sign designating the small town of Hájek. At the entrance to Soos Reserve, there is a museum with models of prehistoric lizards and an exhibit that documents the paleontological and geological history of the Earth and of the Cheb Region. We can also see an animal rescue for handicapped fauna. The education trail that leads you throughout the Soos Reserve begins next to the ticket office.
