Swimming

Only very few historical towns have so many opportunities for recreation in their surroundings like Cheb does. This town has not one, but two water reservoirs, Jesenice and Skalka, not far from Cheb and enticing one to go camping, play water sports, and go fishing. Lovers of swimming will also find ideal conditions here, and those who love surfing, yachting, and scuba diving will especially appreciate Jesenice.

Jesenice Water Reservoir 

A dam with an area of 760 hectares on the Odrava River, 3 to 5 km south-east of the town. It was completed in 1961 and is 12 km long. Several places suitable for swimming can be found around the reservoir – Podhrad, Všeboř, Dřenice, Okrouhlá, Mechová. Boats propelled by combustion engines are prohibited at Jesenice. South of Všeboř, there is a partially flooded concrete bridge, part of which can still be seen above the surface. This bridge formerly connected two towns, crossing the Odrava River.
The dam is sought-out by tourists, and usually has clean water. Those who love to swim, surf, yacht, and scuba dive will enjoy it here.

Skalka Water Reservoir

A dam with an area of 338 hectares located on the Ohře River west of the town. It was completed in 1964. Several sites are found on its banks – Skalka, Podhoří, Cetnov, Bříza, Pomezí nad Ohří. he dam is not only for swimming, but primarily for recreation, and primarily cottage settlements can be found here. In the sweltering summer months, there is the problem of a high blue-green algae content.From the town, leading through the Krajinka Grounds to the levee of the dam and further is a pretty, maintained hiking trail (No. 23) that leads around the Egerwarte sightseeing gazebo all the way to the Stein Farm, Komorní hůrka, and Františkovy Lázně.

The Michal natural swimming pool

  • s a modern water grounds with many attractions. It is located near Sokolov not far from the Karlovy Vary – Cheb road.   
  • Aside from the 500-metre-long sand beaches, visitors can expect interesting attractions for both children and adults with the gigantic toboggan at the helm, as well as sports activities, super facilities, and refreshments.
